On February 27th, there were 390 people gathered in the Ngong Road Forest for a Charity Walk to celebrate and express love towards children in Kenya with disabilities.

International School of Kenya, West Nairobi School, and Makini school, as well as the Nigerian High Commissioner, His Excellency Dr. Chijoke Wilcox Wigwe, the Ugandan High Commissioner, Her Excellency Mrs. Angelina Wapakhabulo, renowned musical artist Muthoni Ndonga, Chizi, and former radio personality Lorna Irungu who was the MC of the event. Also present was a special guest of honor, Leon, a patient from the AIC-CURE International Children’s hospital. At four years old, Leon was unable to walk due to a disabling condition called ‘Tightened Achilles Tendons’. A month ago, Leon underwent surgery on both of his ankles and knee, enabling him to walk on his own one day. In two full leg purple casts, Leon and his mother also participated in the Walk of Love.

Along with raising awareness of disability issues in Kenya, the purpose of the Walk of Love was to pay for the treatment of disadvantaged children with disabilities who would otherwise remain untreated. Thanks to all participants, and corporate sponsors, ‘The Walk of Love’ raised USD44,131.00 or KSH3,309,825. Through a generous matching program, this amount will be doubled to $88,262 or 6,619,650 ksh for the AIC-CURE International Children’s Hospital in Kijabe. This money will go towards the cost of treatment of children with disabilities, as well as pay for the over 50 mobile clinics the hospital operates in remote areas and refugee camps.

CURE International, the organizers of the event thanked its sponsors: Toyota Kenya, RADAR Security, the Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary Trust, Quantum Leap, and the Oracle Partner Network, specifically Dhanush Infotech, AccessKenya, and MFI Enterprise Solutions.
